Despite our 3-0 loss to cross-town fighting Banana Slugs of UC Santa Cruz, we played at times with great energy, determination and grit. The fans, both ours and theirs, were in masses and produced an incredible atmosphere for competition. Fans that are engaged, creative (like a giant salt shaker last night- as banana slugs dislike salt) and understand the nuances of this awesome sport can elevate the competition to a new level. They are "fired up" in nature (not in the manner of these absolutely nutcase European fans pictured) and can make the difference between us winning or losing a match. We didn't get the "W" last night, and it wasn't because we lacked fan support- we must be better. I can only hope that this is the beginning of a new culture of student-fan support for our program and campus community as we begin our 2009 conference campaign next week. Lets get it done together - Bruin Some Trouble!
