digging life with paige

This is the fifth in an 8-part series profiling the returning members of Bethany University volleyball team. Let's meet, 2008 CalPac Freshman and Setter of the Year, Paige Olivo.

BUsports: What have you been up to since last season ended? Anything interesting or exciting? I have been spending time at home with my oldest sister and her new baby. It is just so much fun having everyone home for the summer.

BUsports: What one area of the game did you make the most improvement during the spring season? I feel that I improved connecting with my middle. We had trouble in the fall season but as spring went along, we got a lot better.

BUsports: Anything specific that you have worked on this summer to help you out when the season starts in the fall? Strengthening my back. Last fall I had a lot of trouble with my back and neck so I have just been focusing on those areas trying to get them stronger for the upcoming year.

BUsports: The 2009 season is weeks away. What are you most excited about? I am excited about just seeing all my teammates again and meet the new freshman and transfers. I cannot wait to get back onto the court and play and push myself.

BUsports: You were honored as CalPac Setter and Freshman of the Year. How do plan to top these accolades? Just getting in the gym as much as my time will let me and get touches on the ball and just set as much as I can.

BUsports: When you are not on the volleyball court, what are you most likely doing? Most likely, I am hanging out with my friends doing homework, or reading a book.

BUsports: Complete this sentence: ‘The best thing about being a Bruin is ...’ making friendships with people that will be in my life for a long time.
